All therapists have a duty of care, and indeed the business owners have a legal responsibility, to ensure your health and safety when in treatment. Purifas® FaceShield™ is one of the ways they can do that and is therefore only available to therapists and clinics. However, you can visit our consumer page here to: find a FaceShield™ clinic in your area.
Yes, you can use the FaceShield with any cradle cushion.
Yes, the FaceShield can be used directly on a therapy bed.
The FaceShield is designed to work with all therapy bed face holes. If you would like a sample box to test the FaceShield’s compatibility with your bed, contact us via our enquiry form and we would be happy to post you a sample box.
Aside from being more effort and less cost effective in the long term, reusing the face cushion throughout the day without protection can lead to bacterial growth despite daily washing. Any moisture from skin or humidity will increase the growth of bacteria passed on between patients. The FaceShield is designed to provide the comfort of the towel at a lesser cost. No more washing, buying new towels, labour for laundry – just an easy, convenient box of FaceShields on the side table.
One wipe down a day is insufficient. It takes one patient or client to leave harmful bacteria behind. Learn about the infection risk of your therapy here.
Great! However studies show that even sprays used in hospitals were not strong enough to kill off the bacteria found on equipment even when wiped regularly. Unless stringent cleaning protocol is followed, bacteria will remain present on the bed and your customer will be at risk of cross-infection. Stringent cleaning is a minimum of 70% alcohol wipes used on the face hole, three times in a row with a 30 second wait period in between each application.
Can you be sure your other therapists are doing the same? A study of Australian Teaching Hospitals found that only 30% of staff were found to follow hygiene protocol when unmonitored, leaving clients more susceptible to contracting infectious diseases. Read about the Australian Hygiene guidelines and how Purifas® FaceShield™helps you meet them here.
Any bacteria that is airborne, spit borne or carried through skin particles may potentially be found on the bed. These include but are not limited to MRSA, Chickenpox (Varicella), Flu (Influenza), Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Whooping cough (Bordetella pertussis), Meningitis (Neisseria species), Pneumonia (Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Streptococcus species) and Tuberculosis (Mycobacterium tuberculosis).
In fact in a random swab of the internal aspect of 5 face holes from 5 different clinics (with their permission), showed 2 beds with Staphylococcus (one of which was resistant to most antibiotics including penicillin), one with rhino virus (the common cold) and all showed 5 showed non harmful bacteria, such as skin flora, in moderate to large quantities. Whilst non harmful, no one wants to rub cheek to cheek with a stranger.
Bacteria and viruses are proven to be found on therapy beds – and especially in the facehole. Read about the infection risk of a therapy bed’s face hole here.
